We raise Icelandic/Texel and Black Lincoln ewes for their wool.
We wanted heirloom breeds that would grow wool.
We also wanted wool that would be soft & high quality.
The Icelandic breed has two parts to their wool.
The tog, the top coat, is very long and durable while the thel, the under coat, is very soft, fluffy and warm.
Texels have very springy or elasticity wool that is great for knitting and crocheting.
The Black Lincolns can grow about two feet of wool a year.
Lincolns also are known for how shiny their wool is and how sweet their personalities are.
Both breeds need to be sheared in the fall and spring.
All of these breeds are born with about 1-2 inches of wool.
We have really enjoyed our heirloom sheep
& LOVE working with their beautiful wool!
